10.30.2006 Onlineidols.com, ‘A Global Online Stage,' Debuts
Web Site's Launch Gives Americans a Voice In the Media and Entertainment Industry, and a Challenge to be ‘Extraordinary'
BROOKLYN, NY – (October 30 th , 2006) – The much-heralded arrival of Onlineidols.com means the American public finally has a voice in the media and entertainment industry, and a worldwide online stage.
The Onlineidols Website at www.onlineidols.com is an interactive public site that complements the traditional media and entertainment industry — and a virtual stage on which to showcase major new talent.
“American culture has a lot of energy, but it's lacking a stage,” insisted Yu Gu, founder and president of Onlineidols and a first-year medical student at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. “Our main focus is to provide this to young people so they can show their talent and energy to the world. We want to create our own stars -- to make talented people famous! We see the website as a bridge that allows tomorrow's stars to be discovered by a worldwide audience of viewers and members today.”
After registering at the site, individuals can create their own accounts, upload their own performance videos and compete. They can then watch members' videos uploaded to an “On Stage” area, rate other's videos and vote for their favorite. Members can also meet talented people and make cool friends.
Each month, Onlineidols hosts a talent competition for the top three “On Line Idols.” Based on votes received, the first-, second- and third-place performers receive cash prizes of $400, $200 and $100 respectively, in addition to worldwide exposure.
The site recently completed its first monthly online talent competition. In the first round of voting, registered members can vote once a day for their favorite video performer. In the second, voting is open to non-registered site visitors. Fairness is ensured as software restricts each computer to five votes per day during the second round voting.
“Many young people have talents in the performing arts, but are outside of this highly competitive industry with no connection with which to break through,” said Gu. “Through our interactive Website, they now have a worldwide online stage that is stress- and pressure-free, where they enjoy the freedom to expose their talent in singing, dancing and other performing arts.
The Website, which is still in beta testing, currently has hundreds of members primarily based on word of mouth. A patent has been filed to protect the intellectual property of the site.
Onlineidols will next embark on a high-profile marketing campaign targeted to young teens, high school and college students, as well as their parents and grandparents.
In the months to come, Onlineidols plans to launch country-specific, native-language sites to accommodate the specific needs and interests of the worldwide audience.
